Sotheby’s has just presented ” A Collection of a Lifetime: Chanel Online “, a curated sale of some of the finest examples of fashion from one of the most coveted brands in the world, Chanel. From handbags to jewellery, this sale presented iconic pieces of superb quality. The collection came from one single estate, and we have imagined the challenge it must have been, to walk into the dressing rooms, every morning, and decide which pieces to wear that day or, more likely, which to wear for morning, lunch, afternoon, dinner and evening . Not to mention, the time consuming process, it must have been to select which treasures to bring on holidays and travels .
There is not one single item, that we wouldn`t enjoy in our personal collections but, as expected, the prices reached heights, that is beyond an average editors budget .

This set of multi coloured bijouterie was estimated at 200- 400.- € and sold for 5.240.- € .
This mixed lot was estimated at 200 – 400. – and sold at 1375.- €
This jacket was estimated at 400 – 600.- € and sold for 1250.-€
This mini dress with belt was estimated at 200 – 300.- € and sold for 1.250.-€
The multicoloured coat was estimated at 400-500.- € and sold for 1.375.- € .
This little jacket was estimated at 500 – 900.- € and sold for 2.500.- € .
The faux pearl sunglasses was estimated at 100 – 200.-€ and sold for 7.500.-€ .
The sequin bag was estimated at 300 – 400.-€ and sold for 3.500.-€ .
One lot of chain jewellery was estimated at 200 – 300.-€ and sold for 2.000.-€ .
The pink set with bag was estimate at 1000 – 2000.-€ and was sold for 2.750.- €
The two bracelets were estimated at 300 – 400.- € and sold for 4.375.-€ .
The achieved priced are exclusive of auction fees and taxes .
These are just a few examples from the collection, which is one of the most interesting collections, that has been up for sale in a very long time, if ever .
Anna Wintour, former editor of American Vogue, recently said that it was so easy for young women, today, to be fashionable and sustainable; they could just wear something from their mothers closets .
Sadly, not all of us live in the world of Anna Wintour and can settle for a pile of left over freebies from a magazine editor . Most of us have to buy our own clothes and this auction shows that we are willing to pay for quality and provenance .
These pieces are from relatively recent collections, but it is possible to invest in, maybe one single piece in ones lifetime, that will be appreciated every time it is worn, as long as it is a classic, timeless piece .
